Dining Table Project

I hope your week is off to a good start.  We are working on the dining table.  We have had this pine table for maybe 25ish years.  It has needed attention for a long time. I didn't know what I wanted to do with it though.

I didn't want to go into this project until I knew crystal clear what I wanted the turnout to be.  It is out back and we have been sanding away, only the finish is as hard as the devil to come off.  My mister has been sanding it and accomplished more than I have been able to do. We are leaning in to the sander with our weight and it just isn't budging or is very little.  Did I tell you I don't like diy projects?  I used to love to paint rooms, I really did.  Where did that woman go?

I am trying to take into account the whole bottom floor and how this table will work with what is here.  Overthinking much, you think?!

I have been trying to disguise it and not show the whole table because I wasn't loving it.

If we sand and go back with a sealer it will look like this coffee table.  The finish will be natural and much lighter than the dining table has been.  I know it's hard to tell in this photo.

And y'all thought I just liked a lot of stuff on the table!  Yes, I know you did!   I think I am very traditional now and don't want to go with a trendy look.  This is our only table so it has to be versatile and look good year round like Christmas, Thanksgiving and summer get togethers.

Can you tell I don't change the finish on things often?!  

Don't throw anything at me but I don't care for the chalk paint with the distressed look.  I have seen table tops stained or natural with the bottom of the table painted a white or cream color and I could use regular enamel paint.  I think the chairs painted cream/white/black look good with that look.  Options, options....

Lots of different colors online now.

Wow!  It's a pretty dining set with warmth.  I haven't seen the new tables without the gray in it.  It really makes a huge difference, don't you think?!

The real deal right now.  We have made more head way than this shows though.

We have had so much rain and of course it flooded yesterday and the porch got soaking wet.  We were leaning with our weight on this sander and the finish it just is barely coming off.

So we are going the route of toxic chemicals now.  Only the thing is I don't have a crystal clear vision for the table!  Please don't tell the mister that though!
