Sentimental

Been feeling a bit sentimental lately.  Do you ever have days like that?  So being in this mood I brought out these old plates that were my grandmother's.  I remember us having family gatherings at the table and eating with these plates.  It was a long time ago but I have such good memories.  Only the three little sisters remain.

Wasn't my mother beautiful?  She only wore lipstick and a touch of foundation.  I shared this photo with Anita Diaz/Far Above Rubies and she shared it on her Facebook page, I believe this past December.  I didn't know if I had what it took to be a blogger yet.  I am still learning so much and love it!

Currier & Ives, "The Old Grist Mill", Underglaze Print by Royal.  It looks like it may be a snow scene, which is perfect for this time of year when it is hot.

I am so blessed that I have those same plates!  I don't have all of them but I treasure the ones I do have.

This fabric was left over from a sofa I had recovered in it years ago.  The sofa is gone but I held onto this.  I still love the fabric.  The colors are perfect to me, I could never decorate in neutrals.  Well, never say never, isn't that right?!  I have been thinking of going lighter in my bedroom....still just thinking about it.

Love silver in the summer!  It looks like it would be cool to the touch.

The birdcage was black when I bought it.  I spray painted it with some left over car paint!  It's supposed to be a very light gold but I see silver when it's next to gold or brass.

Tarnished creamer on blue and white saucer.

The blue hydrangeas are showing off this year and giving me that blue that I need in the summer.    I had roses that had seen their best day and just pulled all the petals off and placed them into the birdcage.

    1. Thanks Bev! They really bring you back don't they? I don't have the cups that go with these plates, but when I see them I instantly go back to that time.

  3. I am very sentimental. I have been trying to clean up and clean out lately and it's hard to do, when you want to hold on to special items! Yours are lovely!

    1. Thanks Kim! I know it's hard for me to part with things that have a sentimental meaning to them. Blogging seems to also require a lot of stuff to have on hand as well, I am learning!

  4. Your Mom was indeed beautiful. I love the fabric you used in your scape - so pretty, and if you don't mind, I'm going to "steal" your idea of rose petals in the bird cage. I have three small cages and I never know what to put in them. Thanks!

    1. Thank you! You just "steal away"! It's always nice to find ideas and I am sure I will be "lifting" some from you!

  8. My Aunt had these same dishes, and I ate many a delicious meal off of them. She taught me a lot about cooking, and I miss her.
