Cool Mornings With Blue

Early mornings are required to be spent outside.  There's much to see from the day before.  I love blue this time of year when it's so hot outdoors.  After spending time watering I like to cool off inside with blue around me.  Blue is always the color I turn to in the summer to cool off.  The brighter the blue the more intense the cool.  It can be as simple as a vignette with a blue and white dinner plate and fresh flowers.  The magenta flowers turn up the intensity of the blue.  The blue hydrangeas cool things down even more.

You don't have to use a lot of new things to visually cool your home down.  I love blue plates out and love to pair them with colors that intensify the hue.

Fortunately my wallpaper in the dining room has a rich blue included.  But to tell you the truth I wouldn't let anything stand in the way of blue in the summer.

Vintage glasses hold the hydrangeas.  The lavender lamp bought so many years past.  Magenta carnations paired with another flower from the local chain store.

Love those sweet dahlias!

Wisteria in June.  After it was cut back, we gained some blooms.

They look so different according to the time of day and light.

I know neutrals are popular but the green on my buffet helps the blue stand out more.

Blue Hydrangea Table

Blue is just the Queen in the hot summer time!  It's feeling very summer like today with high humidity so it is time to have a table set outside beside the blue hydrangeas.  They are paired with my Blue Willow plates and blue and white toile tablecloth.  Water pitchers of blue, white and clear hold freshly cut hydrangeas.  My mother's vintage sugar and creamer silver hold pink roses from the yard.  Silver mercury glass candleholders hold a bird's nest and white candle.

Bacon Please!

Today I am going to ‘talk’ to you as if you were here in my kitchen ~ I think it will be fun!  A little me mixed with an older, more country, southern woman.
This is a bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise supper with fried green tomatoes on the side.  I have been thinking about a BLT since I started this post so just maybe I can eat one for supper

Ya’ll grab you a plate and fix it the way you want.  Everything’s set up on the island.  Fix your own plate.  Sweet tea or coke.  We got them both.

Now kids ya’ll be sure and dry off before you come in.  Don’t get the floor soaking wet or you will fall.  These floors are slick when wet.  Oh I know that water feels good today!

These tomatoes are fixin to be ready..ya’ll come on and get you some fore they get cold.

Did ya’ll hear me?  Eat your those tomatoes first before they get cold.  They ain’t no good cold.

I need a coke.  Sometimes when I really get hot, nothing is as good as a coke.

Ya’ll hold up…we have to bless the food.
Amen!

Oh I forgot the paper towels..would you bring them to the table?

Yum…I think I will be eating two of these.

Lindsey ~ why don’t you run to the market basket and get us a pretty watermelon for later.

I taped the stories so we can watch them later. (Some older ladies call soap operas, ‘stories’)

You know your daddy is asleep, just listen to that tv.  It’s as loud as it will go and he ain’t muting it on the commercials.  O’Reilly put him asleep again.

Sentimental

Been feeling a bit sentimental lately.  Do you ever have days like that?  So being in this mood I brought out these old plates that were my grandmother's.  I remember us having family gatherings at the table and eating with these plates.  It was a long time ago but I have such good memories.  Only the three little sisters remain.

Wasn't my mother beautiful?  She only wore lipstick and a touch of foundation.  I shared this photo with Anita Diaz/Far Above Rubies and she shared it on her Facebook page, I believe this past December.  I didn't know if I had what it took to be a blogger yet.  I am still learning so much and love it!

Currier & Ives, "The Old Grist Mill", Underglaze Print by Royal.  It looks like it may be a snow scene, which is perfect for this time of year when it is hot.

I am so blessed that I have those same plates!  I don't have all of them but I treasure the ones I do have.

This fabric was left over from a sofa I had recovered in it years ago.  The sofa is gone but I held onto this.  I still love the fabric.  The colors are perfect to me, I could never decorate in neutrals.  Well, never say never, isn't that right?!  I have been thinking of going lighter in my bedroom....still just thinking about it.

Love silver in the summer!  It looks like it would be cool to the touch.

The birdcage was black when I bought it.  I spray painted it with some left over car paint!  It's supposed to be a very light gold but I see silver when it's next to gold or brass.

Tarnished creamer on blue and white saucer.

The blue hydrangeas are showing off this year and giving me that blue that I need in the summer.    I had roses that had seen their best day and just pulled all the petals off and placed them into the birdcage.
