Carolina
It was nearing the end of Summer and they were about to move. They were moving far away from this Carolina state she had known. She had learned how to ride her bicycle around the neighborhood even though she never learned how to break. There were bushes along her path that stopped her and she make a point of staying close by.

She walked to school every day because they lived so close. Eating the neighbor's figs off the bush was a weekend ritual. The neighbor girl wanted to play dolls with her and her younger sister but she didn't know how to play the way they did, the right way. Besides her name was Clara Ann and her mother made such a fuss over her it wasn't worth trying to play with her. The memories that she had would go with her to their new home. They were made in Carolina but she could keep them with her no matter where she lived.

She would live close to her grandmother when they moved. Her grandmother and grandfather had come all the way to their house to visit that last Christmas in Carolina. They drove a very long way to see them. The morning school started back after Christmas break she wanted to say goodbye to her grandmother but she was bathing and her mother wouldn't let her wait. She walked on to school and tried so hard to not think about her grandmother that was still in her house.

Her grandmother was still at her house and she was going to leave while she was sitting in her classroom. It was awfully hard to hold back the tears. She really tried. Tried not to show how sad she was that her grandmother was leaving and it would be a long long time before she saw her again. She was crying and could not stop. The teacher asked what was wrong but she couldn't find her voice and just sobbed. There was no denying her heart was longing to just say that goodbye. The teacher allowed her to walk home. She arrived and her grandmother had left. She cried for most of the morning.
