Manic Monday

Manic Monday, is that today?  The Monday before the July the 4th celebrations.  I really wanted to go with a pinky red, white and blue table today but there were no red fresh flowers to be found.  I like to observe the holiday in a little more subtle way.  What about you?  How do you like to decorate for the 4th?  For now there is the blue and white and a medley of pinks and corals.  Yes, there is good ole orange too.

Blue spode dinner plates surrounded by an almost riot of color.  It does feel like a celebration is going on even if the colors are off an inch.

Do you have big plans?

Swimming, skiing, traveling, snorkeling?

I hope a good time is had by all.

A time to feel grateful for what we have.

Blue Hydrangeas Table

This tablescape was born out of wanting to do something a little different.  I have a definite need for color and know there are many that enjoy it.  The blue hydrangeas are vivacious and make a pretty tablescape that dares you to not to notice them.  The magenta tablecloth was picked to bring out the blue of the hydrangeas, fearing a white cloth would be too blah, too predictable. The flowers were demanding a dramatic color so I was determined to please them.  Dahlias and carnations keep things from being too monotone, or too much of one color.

Time of day and taken with a cell phone the blue is much more intense in this photo.

This huge hydrangea head was blue two days ago.  They change color so fast.

May Showers

The undeniable urge to put a tablescape together came over me and could not be denied.  Never mind it was raining, we are going to have rain on and off for several days and I knew some of the flowers outside would be knocked off if the rain is hard enough.

The summer flowers make a pretty background for the table.  Lavender, jute, hollyhocks, blue hydrangeas, sweet potato vine, petunias are circling the table.  The centerpiece flowers were a happy from the mister.

This table actually started off inside and I thought what the heck am I doing?

Pretty salad plates from Ebay, Oriana in Teal sit on white dinner plates.  Teal blue glasses pick up the blue from the tablecloth and repeat from the salad plates.

Almost A Visit To The Past

Mama had told me early that morning to walk to the store for some things.  I am nine and walking to the store barefooted.  The rocks hurt but I am trying to toughen up my feet.  The store is way out in the country as are we.  The store has those old wood floors as all the stores in the country did at that time.  I couldn't get much for me but it was a sure highlight to have anything sweet.

Mama babysat across the lane.  I was a little jealous because they had air conditioning.  Meanwhile we had a fan and it was hot.  When I say hot, I am talking about Mississippi hot.  Humid and hot is a lot different from just hot.  But I was young and didn't notice the heat so much as I would when I got older.  We lived down from my grandparents, they had air condtioning too.  My grandmother always had the best desserts on Sunday afternoon.  I didn't dare go peek and see what it was.  She never fussed at me but I knew I better not go messing around in her kitchen.  She had an air of authority.  We were taught about Jesus and Hell but I wasn't ready to visit either one yet.

You can feel that this photo was taken early in the morning.  It also has the look of history, of remembering all those mornings long before. I love the morning light, do you?  I know you have seen many photos of outdoors where they still carry the night's fog.

It's a sliver of time to play with in my house before the sun moves toward the west.  I try to have things set up prior to taking a few photos.  This morning though I managed to get some shots that I considered a good representation of morning.  Blurry but bright and full of possibilites.

Almost a visit to the past.

Short and Sweet

I hope this post finds you doing well, it's a short and sweet post.  May has arrived and our gardenias smell wonderful.  The blue hydrangeas are growing everyday and putting on their blue.  Layla and Sonny will be getting  haircuts tomorrow.  The mister had eye surgery yesterday.  It went well and he is eager to get back to work.  He will have his other eye done soon.  He hates not being able to physically do what he wants, when he wants.  It makes him an unhappy camper.

My roses are on their way out.  They were so pretty I hate to see them go.  They came from the store and not my yard but they started out looking a little puny but turned into such beauties.  I was fortunate to be able to capture this with my cell phone.  Sometimes a cell phone just works better for me.  By the way, I am on Instagram as well.  Please come see me, I will be hanging out with all the other flower lovers!

May is a busy month for so many with graduations, engagements and weddings.  I hope your month of May is one that brings happy times and some happy memories.

Pretty In Pink Tablescape

Mother’s Day is coming closer on the calendar.   Sometimes a get together with a little dessert is just perfect.  Pink roses are a sure way to keep the mood happy and light.  This Mother’s Day tablescape is easy and pretty in pink.

I know just about every woman on the planet likes flowers in one form or another.  I wonder why that is?  Perhaps a dessert you know she loves will be just the right thing for her this year.  After all, everyone loves a sweet treat.

A gift wrapped in pink or white would match your table and your mother would be so happy.

Spring Table with Blue and White

We have had quite a chilly weekend.  It felt great to need a jacket.  We never had a winter and the cooler temps were so refreshing.  But the high Friday will be 90 degrees so we will be in summer instead of Spring.  I have a tablescape to share with you.  Picked up lavender and pink tulips with pink roses for the table.

All sorts of blue is happening on the table.  Blue spode dinner plates, with blue and white ginger jars.  A spode vase centered on the table holding all the pretty flowers.

Easter Table

I have my Easter tablescape to share with you today.  There is a lavender tablecloth folded and running down the center of the table.  Brass chargers under white dinner plates with cabbage plates on top are the center focus.  Orchids on the buffet and on the table in a magenta add to the festive feel of the occasion.  My late mother's glasses paired with pink stemware and alternates with green tipped stemware.  A Spring mixture of flowers in each white pitcher to make sure it is full and feels joyful.

My orchids on the buffet needed height so they are covered in moss sitting in a pedestal bowl which sits in a large white bowl.  The white bowl sits in the urn.  The urn sits atop three green vintage books.  How's that for ingenuity!  The light in here is always a little difficult so excuse the clarity of the photos.

I dressed the orchids with green little organza type bags that my paper whites came in Christmas.  They were so pretty I knew I would use them for something and held on to them.  They dress the orchids up so well!

Spring Living/Family Room 2017

Easter is fast approaching and I haven't shared the my Spring living/family room with you yet.   There's plenty of color and flowers to share.   Just by being born we are given so much color from the sky, grass and flowers.  I love to immerse myself in the colors nature provides.

The is very close to my home, as you can see we have greened up for Spring.  I love this spot, it always looks different.

Things were tweaked again in here.  This sofa was brought further into the room.  I scooted the reading chair into the corner behind it.  It sits further back than it appears in the photo.  It's a good spot for reading and Layla loves to watch the squirrels and birds here now.  On the chest, I brought the painting back in here of the red roof house with a garden of many flowers.  The two paintings are very different in style but I like the colors and it brings a little more happiness into the room.

New red and white pillow covers for each sofa from Etsy.

And I am have been working on a little something in my dining room.....

Stay tuned!
