However some of us aren't wired that way. I can be sitting on the porch sipping tea early in the morning and spy something in the yard that was not noticed before. It was the wisteria. It's almost July 4th and there is wisteria blooming. The banana plants are big now and have plenty of leaves. So I made a dash for it and starting cutting away at the wisteria before the wasps and bees were awake to sting me.<br />
<br />
<br />
The hydrangeas are starting to get brown spots on some of them so I went ahead a cut a few more. They are a pretty green with a pink running through them. I had trouble reaching the prettier ones but I was on a mission.<br />
<br />
<br />
I got a workout from all the cutting and was now looking for a spot to do the tablescape. It would have to go to the upstairs dining room (blog room!). The light is usually good in there and I can get out of the heat.<br />
<br />
<br />
But before I put this together I needed to eat breakfast since it was now 11:00 and I was shaking from low blood sugar. So I popped some eggs in the skillet while I made more tea. I caught myself just about to squeeze the lemon quarter on the eggs in the skillet. You can judge how hungry I was now!<br />
So yes, it's a little unusual for this time of year but that's a good thing.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
The flowers always dictate what I do. I am fortunate enough to have some things growing in the yard that I can use on my tablescapes. The flowers themselves inspire me. The hydrangeas are shown in purple pots that we bought some other plants in. They were such a pretty color, why throw them out? They pick up the violet hue in the hydrangeas so well.<br />

celebrations. I really wanted to go with a pinky red, white and blue
table today but there were no red fresh flowers to be found. I like to
observe the holiday in a little more subtle way. What about you? How
do you like to decorate for the 4th? For now there is the blue and
white and a medley of pinks and corals. Yes, there is good ole orange
too.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_45561.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-22477" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_45561.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />

<br />
Blue spode dinner plates surrounded by an almost riot of color. It does feel like a celebration is going on even if the colors are off an inch.<br />

The yard is in transition now. We have had so much more rain with the tropical storm Cindy not moving away quickly. I don't have any roses as she knocked them all off but this was how they were shortly before. The rain knocked off the oleander blooms as well. I haven't been able to get out in the yard it will literally soak your feet with shoes on.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Surprise! Surprise! We have a precious few zinnias and I am keeping my fingers crossed we will get enough for at least a couple of pitchers full this summer.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/zinnias.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22425" height="887" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/zinnias.jpg" width="665" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
My daughter gifted my mister a lantana for Father's Day. I hid it outside in plain sight for over a week and he didn't see it! It has to be planted very soon.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_43871.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22351" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_43871.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The mister is very sensitive to sweets so he got to munch on a fruity dessert.<br />

<span class="_5yl5">It's chopped honey crisp apple, halved grapes, orange gelatin and whipped cream. My daughter made it, she and the mister like that sort of dessert.</span><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Our hydrangeas are turning colors now. Everything from blue to green to green with pink or a little of all on one head. This was a very blue hydrangea, remember how they looked?<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/pink-and-green-hydrangea.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22406" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/pink-and-green-hydrangea.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We went out to a local nursery and I picked up one of these hydrangeas that is supposed to bloom until Fall. I have my fingers crossed. Each bush has several different colored blooms on it. Don't cut it back and it will bloom more, it reads on the label.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4334.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22336" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4334.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />

What a fun idea! Welcome to our backyard! We live in the deep South so Spring and Summer weather comes very early compared to some of the nation.<br />
<br />
It's a simple yard but a sea of trees here. I didn't want a manicured, follow the lines yard but something that felt more natural almost like a park setting. We don't have a garden of vegetables but have planted bulbs by the fence. They haven't performed yet but we see lots of growth and leaves but no flowers yet except for a couple of gladiolus. We have blue hydrangeas blooming across the yard next to the woodline. All blue except for one purple blooming bush.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_3841.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22072" height="558" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_3841.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Early on we had pretty irises blooming.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_3003.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21481" height="640" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_3003.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
The wisteria was plentiful.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_3021.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21495" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_3021.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Purple hydrangea colors range from pinky to definite purple.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2279.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21864" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2279.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One lacecap hydrangea bush as well.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2277.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21860" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2277.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
May brought color to the porch with lots of potted plants in an assortment of colors.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2250.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21858" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2250.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Hollyhocks were a welcome addition.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_3848.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21854" height="781" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_3848.jpg" width="586" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Crape myrtles should bloom lavender but they have been stubbornly resisting blooming.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_3847.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22077" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_3847.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The dahlias are not producing yet this year. This is from last year. I am growing anxious about them.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_9011.jpeg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22217" height="933" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_9011.jpeg" width="700" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Not one sunflower this year, they never came up.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/img_1011.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16372" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/img_1011.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One zinnia has emerged. It's a sad sad situation. Of course this is from last year as well.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/img_1194.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16468" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/img_1194.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I think he agreed.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_3793.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21818" height="671" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_3793.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Rose of Sharon is looking very pretty this year.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2265.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21862" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2265.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The Magnolia trees have been taunting me with blooms just high enough that I couldn't reach them. Meanwhile while riding through town I could have just plucked one off the trees the blooms were so low. There was one tree in particular that tried to seduce me into taking just one bloom but I didn't want to get shot so I didn't touch it. Only to find the whole tree cut down the next time I went by it.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/img_94001.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7643" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/img_94001.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This was the garden early in the year last year but we are puny this year so far.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/img_53781.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14097" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/img_53781.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
On the other side of the wooden fence are two shrubs. I don't know the name as I have seen them called different things. Let's see...Chaste tree, Texas Lilac, Buddleia (Butterfly bush).<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/shrubs.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22205" height="934" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/shrubs.jpg" width="700" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
But this is what I thought was a butterfly bush. Anyone know? I saw these in town and went to buy some at a nursery and they sold us the above bushes.<br />

I know most of you know there is no veranda here. There is a table for us on the back porch. I have coffee cups if that is what you desire or bottled water. It's super steamy this morning and hot.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4365.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-22323" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4365.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Flowers from chain store and hydrangea from the yard. Well...that's a fib. I bought a new hydrangea bush and took two blooms off the plant. So technically it isn't in the yard yet.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4362.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-22327" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4362.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
I don't know what is going on with me but I can't get enough lavender lately. I want nothing but magenta and lavender. Do you ever get hooked on colors?<br />
<br />

I have a definite need for color and know there are many that enjoy it. The blue hydrangeas are vivacious and make a pretty tablescape that dares you to not to notice them. The magenta tablecloth was picked to bring out the blue of the hydrangeas, fearing a white cloth would be too blah, too predictable. The flowers were demanding a dramatic color so I was determined to please them. Dahlias and carnations keep things from being too monotone, or too much of one color.<br />

I would go home for lunch and while there I would always immediately notice the colors in my home. Now I had just left that morning but I worked in a very blah looking office. Aren't they all?! But coming home for just a little while and breathing in color always made me feel better.<br />
<br />
<br />
The early part of the summer months seem to be the prettiest and most enjoyable. We have some blooms from the yard I brought in. Some were bought at a local big box store. A couple of purple hydrangeas and yellow gladiolus along with mint are in this floral delight.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4193.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22161" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4193.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
Layla is assisting this morning. She is a plus size model now.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4304.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22127" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4304.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
I love the abundance of flowers this time of year. It's wonderful to be able to use something from your yard even if it's a small amount.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4318.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-22125" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4318.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
A garden is timeless and trendless. That's how I love to decorate, in nature's pretty bounty.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4308.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-22129" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4308.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
The mint came back from my daughter's plantings, rose of Sharon, purple hydrangeas and butterfly bush help fill out the early Summer floral party. The mint has lasted two years outside!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_7236.jpeg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22222" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_7236.jpeg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
She had chives, pineapple mint, thyme, catnip, lemon balm, purple basil, sweet mammoth basil, Genovese basil, apple mint, German chamomile, Russian tarragon, sage and fern leaf dill. Chives, thyme, tarragon, sage and dill can be used in a variety of dishes to add great fresh flavor. You can add chopped dill or chives to butter to make herbed butter.<br />
<br />
<br />
Catnip, lemon balm, lavender and chamomile can all be used to make herbal teas. They all have a gentle relaxing and calming effect and can be mixed together. Catnip and lemon balm also repel insects and can be used to make all natural homemade insect repellent. I keep telling her to blog but she doesn't have the time.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4327.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-22183" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4327.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_42871.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22151" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_42871.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
The morning sun is shining bright now. Time to go get some pretty color!<br />

What a relief! The yard is so wet I can't walk across it without getting bogged down. So today I want to share with you a little rearranging I did.<br />
You remember the armoire that lives in the dining room. It has been sitting in this corner for years. I decided to push it over a bit.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3405.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21677" height="933" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3405.jpg" width="700" /></a><br />
<br />
The sofa table that lives behind this sofa was brought into the dining room. I brought the lamps as well.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2909.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21376" height="1200" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2909.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Now I have great space for sharing whatever is the latest pretty. I found a really nice green fabric and have a tablecloth from it. It goes with the wallpaper so well. This is the first arrangement I did for the new spot.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4074.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22042" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4074.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Today I have just a couple of the purple hydrangeas and paired them on a silver tray and mercury glass candleholders along with a glass candlestick. The glass holding the hydrangeas with the fleur de lis was done by my talented sister-in-law years ago when we got a set from her.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4113.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-22054" height="900" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_4113.jpg" width="675" /></a><br />
<br />
What have you been up to lately?<br />

Vanrenen would be included in that. She hasn't turned her back on color
as we in the U.S. seem to have. She is bold and has a keen eye.
Designing for over fifteen years she doesn't believe everything has to
match in her decors. It's not surprising she has such talent when you
learn her mother is textile and interior designer Penny Morrison, of
Irving & Morrison, that is Carolina Irving & Penny Morrison.<br />
<br />
<br />

From Sarah's site <a data-mce-href="http://vanrenendesigns.com/project/north-kensington-town-house/" href="http://vanrenendesigns.com/project/north-kensington-town-house/">here </a><em>She
has worked as an interior designer for over fifteen years. She has a
strong belief that homes should be lived in and not monuments. Her
style is architecturally modern and simple with clean lines, sturdy and
practical. A home should look as though it has been lived in and the
things in it accumulated with love and time by the owner, but still have
a sense of togetherness.</em></div>

<em>Sarah loves to
find individual pieces of furniture, textiles, rugs, lamps, artworks and
is constantly scouring markets, galleries, and little places off the
beaten track to find that sometimes wacky, but always original, and
special piece, so that each home looks completely unique, and not the
same as the last house she decorated. Sarah reads her clients and
adapts her style to their character and their lifestyle, so that no one
walk into their home and says "oh did so-and-so do this?"</em><br />
We will visit three homes displaying Sarah's talent.<br />

<strong> Sarah has brought the colors and charm to her husband's Wiltshire farmhouse. </strong>When
Sarah married her husband she had much work to accomplish to her
husbands' 300 year old farmhouse. His grandmother had lived there and
he had lived there all of his life.<br />

could not be denied. Never mind it was raining, we are going to have
rain on and off for several days and I knew some of the flowers outside
would be knocked off if the rain is hard enough.<br />

The
summer flowers make a pretty background for the table. Lavender, jute,
hollyhocks, blue hydrangeas, sweet potato vine, petunias are circling
the table. The centerpiece flowers were a happy from the mister.<br />

<br />
A story of Love, Duty and Moms<br />
<br />
A mother has no need for praise, no more than spring has or a rose in bloom.<br />
<br />
She is, above all else, love's embodiment, and love seeks no praise for it needs none: it desires only to do its lovely duty.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_3848.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_3848.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21854" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_3848.jpg" height="781" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_3848.jpg" width="586" /></a><br />
<br />
A
mother is the vessel through which love's duty is performed,
manifesting itself in the simplest chore as well as in the greatest
sacrifice: the made-up bed to self-denial for others.<br />
<br />
Love is a
mother's instinct, her magnificent gift from nature which in turn
becomes a measureless and an inexhaustible fount of giving. It is the
profound theme running the very width and breadth of nature.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/pink-hydrangea.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/pink-hydrangea.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21856" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/pink-hydrangea.jpg" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/pink-hydrangea.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
I
observed a mother recently performing her instinctive duties in a
profound and graceful manner. It seemed the grand symbol of the essence
of motherhood.<br />
<br />
From a window I watched as she busily brought in
food to her three infants and hastily carried out the trash, and when
this work was done for a while, she sat on guard nearby ready to defend
to her death against any harm that came toward her kin.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2250.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2250.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21858" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2250.jpg" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2250.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
Then
thunder roared overhead and lighting streaked and rain began to pour,
but fast as had been the lightning streak, the mother cardinal was in
her nest hovered over her three babies not two weeks old and not a rain
drop would touch them.<br />
<br />
Turning upward her red-tipped beak as if in
a show of pride, the mother bird puffed out her breast and spread her
feathers, making a perfectly warm and dry embrace for her young.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2277.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2277.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21860" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2277.jpg" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2277.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
The
rain poured and splattered about her and a steady stream found its way
through the leaves and limbs that cradled her nest, but she seemed not
the least perturbed by it.<br />
<br />
Even when the wind began wrenching the
bush that held her and her young, the mother cardinal moved not a single
feather. She surely would have clung to the nest even if it had been
blown to the ground where the flooding rain water likely would drowned
her.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2265.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2265.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21862" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2265.jpg" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2265.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />
<br />
The
next day the sun was bright and hot, and the mother puffed up her
feathers to allow the coolness of a soft breeze to touch her young.<br />
<br />
And
as if she had a built in clock that signaled feeding time she would fly
off and return with some morsel for hungry mouths, never gone long
enough or far enough for the nest to be without ample protection.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2279.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2279.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21864" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2279.jpg" height="800" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/05/img_2279.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
It was a simple symphony of giving.<br />
<br />
Love. Duty. A praise-worth performance that needs no praise.<br />

things. I am nine and walking to the store barefooted. The rocks hurt
but I am trying to toughen up my feet. The store is way out in the
country as are we. The store has those old wood floors as all the
stores in the country did at that time. I couldn't get much for me but
it was a sure highlight to have anything sweet.<br />
<br />
Mama babysat
across the lane. I was a little jealous because they had air
conditioning. Meanwhile we had a fan and it was hot. When I say hot, I
am talking about Mississippi hot. Humid and hot is a lot different
from just hot. But I was young and didn't notice the heat so much as I
would when I got older. We lived down from my grandparents, they had
air condtioning too. My grandmother always had the best desserts on
Sunday afternoon. I didn't dare go peek and see what it was. She never
fussed at me but I knew I better not go messing around in her kitchen.
She had an air of authority. We were taught about Jesus and Hell but I
wasn't ready to visit either one yet.<br />
<br />
You can feel that this
photo was taken early in the morning. It also has the look of history,
of remembering all those mornings long before. I love the morning light,
do you? I know you have seen many photos of outdoors where they still
carry the night's fog.<br />
<br />
It's a sliver of time to play with in my
house before the sun moves toward the west. I try to have things set up
prior to taking a few photos. This morning though I managed to get
some shots that I considered a good representation of morning. Blurry
but bright and full of possibilites.<br />

May has arrived and our gardenias smell wonderful. The blue hydrangeas
are growing everyday and putting on their blue. Layla and Sonny will be
getting haircuts tomorrow. The mister had eye surgery yesterday. It
went well and he is eager to get back to work. He will have his other
eye done soon. He hates not being able to physically do what he wants,
when he wants. It makes him an unhappy camper.<br />
<br />
My roses are on
their way out. They were so pretty I hate to see them go. They came from the store and not my yard but they started out looking a little puny but turned into such beauties. I was
fortunate to be able to capture this with my cell phone. Sometimes a
cell phone just works better for me. By the way, I am on Instagram as
well. Please come see me, I will be hanging out with all the other
flower lovers!<br />
<br />
May is a busy month for so many with graduations,
engagements and weddings. I hope your month of May is one that brings
happy times and some happy memories.<br />

Sometimes a get
together with a little dessert is just perfect. Pink roses are a sure
way to keep the mood happy and light. This Mother’s Day tablescape is
easy and pretty in pink.<br />

I know just about every woman on the planet likes flowers in one form or
another. I wonder why that is? Perhaps a dessert you know she loves
will be just the right thing for her this year. After all, everyone
loves a sweet treat.<br />

It felt great to need a jacket.
We never had a winter and the cooler temps were so refreshing. But the
high Friday will be 90 degrees so we will be in summer instead of
Spring. I have a tablescape to share with you. Picked up lavender and
pink tulips with pink roses for the table.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3518.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3518.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-21740" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3518.jpg?w=900" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3518.jpg?w=900" width="900" /></a><br />

All
sorts of blue is happening on the table. Blue spode dinner plates,
with blue and white ginger jars. A spode vase centered on the table
holding all the pretty flowers.<br />

lavender tablecloth folded and running down the center of the table.
Brass chargers under white dinner plates with cabbage plates on top are
the center focus. Orchids on the buffet and on the table in a magenta
add to the festive feel of the occasion. My late mother's glasses
paired with pink stemware and alternates with green tipped stemware. A
Spring mixture of flowers in each white pitcher to make sure it is full
and feels joyful.<br />
<br />
My orchids on the buffet needed height so they
are covered in moss sitting in a pedestal bowl which sits in a large
white bowl. The white bowl sits in the urn. The urn sits atop three
green vintage books. How's that for ingenuity! The light in here is always a little difficult so excuse the clarity of the photos.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I
dressed the orchids with green little organza type bags that my paper
whites came in Christmas. They were so pretty I knew I would use them
for something and held on to them. They dress the orchids up so well!<br />

Easter is fast approaching and I haven't shared the my Spring
living/family room with you yet. There's plenty of color and flowers to
share. Just by being born we are given so much color from the sky,
grass and flowers. I love to immerse myself in the colors nature
provides.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3167.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3167.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21635" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3167.jpg" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3167.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The is very close to my home, as you can see we have greened up for Spring. I love this spot, it always looks different.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3102.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3102.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21663" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3102.jpg" height="468" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/img_3102.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Things
were tweaked again in here. This sofa was brought further into the
room. I scooted the reading chair into the corner behind it. It sits
further back than it appears in the photo. It's a good spot for reading
and Layla loves to watch the squirrels and birds here now. On the
chest, I brought the painting back in here of the red roof house with a
garden of many flowers. The two paintings are very different in style
but I like the colors and it brings a little more happiness into the
room.<br />

InteriorsI have a special treat today! We will be touring Meg Hosler's home, that is Meg of Meggie H. Interiors.<br />

Meg
Hosler is the founder of Meggie H. Interiors. As a former educator and
full time mother, Meg has always maintained a passion for decorating.
Meg’s interest in decorating was very obvious from early on in her life
as she enjoyed her mother's decorating magazines instead of the usual
teen ones. I would say that's a sure sign!<br />
<br />
Meg's obvious love for
decorating was undeniable and instead of the usual gifts for a graduate
she was received her first oriental rug. Fortunately Meg's husband was
smart and understood his wife's love for all things involved with
interior decorating. She chose beautiful paintings and furnishings to
fill their lovely home. After receiving encouragement from a dear
friend, Meg started Meggie H. Interiors. After fifteen years of
renovating and decorating five homes of her own and helping numerous
friends with theirs, Meg started Meggie H. Interiors in 2008, working
part time while still maintaining focus on her family. Eight years
later with her first born setting off to college and her baby about to
get his driver’s license, Meg is able to pursue her passion full time.<br />

<br />
Meg, your home is rich in color from the walls to the paintings and textiles. Have you always been drawn to color?<br />
<br />
I
love color, however it is more about the space and the climate. My
first home was in the Silicon Valley where it is sunny and hot most of
the year. Add to that, most of the architecture leans towards
contemporary. Using lots of bold color in our first home wouldn't have
worked. It would have made the space feel as hot as the outdoors, as
well as dealing with high ceilings and walls without breaks, saturated
wall colors would have been too intense. I went with an all blue and
white theme, keeping the walls white and the textiles in various blues
and white. It wasn't until I moved back to Massachusetts, where the
climate is colder for most of the year and many homes have been built
before 1930, that I began to go a bit bonkers with saturated colors. If I
were to decorate an older home on the east coast in a warm climate,
like Florida, I would use color, but paler softer colors for walls, then
bring in more saturation with accessories and fabrics.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/hosler-interior-design-10.jpeg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/hosler-interior-design-10.jpeg"><img alt="hosler-interior-design-10" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-21268" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/hosler-interior-design-10.jpeg?w=1024" height="684" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/hosler-interior-design-10.jpeg?w=1024" width="1024" /></a><br />
<br />
Do you believe that people can have an emotional response to certain colors?<br />
<br />
Absolutely,
emotionally and physically!! It has has been scientifically proven. The
book 'Drunk Tank Pink' written by Adam Alter is a great resource on the
science behind how color affects us. I highly recommend reading the
Prologue and chapter seven, entitled Colors. The title of the book is
based on Professor Alexander Schauss' paper he wrote for the academic
journal 'Orthomolecular Psychiatry' where he goes on to explain how pink
is a soothing color, hence why drunk tanks were painted pink. Pink was
also used in sports, using it to paint the visiting team's locker room.
It was shown that the athletes with the pink locker room did not perform
as well. It is now illegal to paint an opposing team's locker room
pink. I love pink in a living room because of its soothing quality, well
that and pink makes everyone look better.<br />

When
decorating a room, what is the first step for you? Everyone starts
somewhere different it seems. Is the color first? Where does the idea
come from? Is a fabric pattern? Wallpaper? Or art?<br />
<br />
<br />
Great question
and my answer is simple. What will the room be used for? Will children
be in here, pets? Will it be used for entertaining? Is it going to be a
formal or informal space? From there I will go to what the most costly
item the client owns that will be in the space. Usually it is an
oriental rug, but it may be a piece of art work. If we are starting the
room from scratch then I start with a printed fabric. This will be that
to die for fabric that the client absolutely loves and has to have. Now
that I know what colors I have to choose from, I let the room pick how
those colors will be used. How much sunlight does the space get? Do we
need to make the space bigger or cozier? How do the clients want to feel
while they are in that room? Once I have all these questions answered I
can pull it all together.<br />

<br />
As
you all know my house is over the top with color, however my kitchen is
very neutral with white and cherry cabinets, soapstone counters, black
appliances, dove white woodwork and pale oak walls. My pop of color
would be the oriental rugs I have on my pine floors. They give the room
so much warmth and they are marvelous at hiding dog fur. - Meg<br />

<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/meggie-h-interiors-kitchen.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/meggie-h-interiors-kitchen.jpg"><img alt="meggie-h-interiors-kitchen" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21258" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/meggie-h-interiors-kitchen.jpg" height="718" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/meggie-h-interiors-kitchen.jpg" width="750" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I
know many with the neutral homes rely heavily on accessories to bring
interest into the room. In a sense does the color fill the room so that
there is less need for small clutter?<br />
<br />
I don't think so. In fact, I
think the answer to that can be found in the first part of your
question. If someone needs more accessories to make their neutral space
interesting, then that tells me that they aren't happy with their space
being neutral, but are afraid to commit to painting the room a color or
to use a bold fabric. Accessories should be things you LOVE,
collectibles, family heirlooms, art and memories. You can have a very
colorful room and still have lots of accessories. However, when you are
purchasing pieces to just fill space, they will just be things and
things can't make you happy. Take the chance and paint the room, if you
hate it after 4 months, paint it back. It may end up being less money
than all that useless tchotkes you would have purchased.<br />

biggest mistake being playing it safe. Now I believe do what you love,
never settle, and if it doesn't work change it. - Meg<br />

I
painted the whole room in a high gloss coral. The only way to make a
dark room light is with lamps, not paint. However, you can make it feel
warm and that is why I had the entire space painted coral. - Meg<br />

<br />
Some
say we are drawn to the colors we would wear, is that an accurate
description for you and do you think that is why you are drawn to
certain colors?<br />
<br />
<br />
I do believe that there is some truth to that. We
all have colors we love and colors we dislike, so it only makes sense
that we want to surround ourselves with colors that make us happy. I
tend to wear a lot of black and grey, colors I rarely use when
decorating. However, I do find myself drawn to orange based pinks,
whether they are pale peach, apricot, salmon, or deep coral. In almost
every room in my home you will find an orangey pink, even if it is just a
bit in an oriental rug or painting.<br />

<br />
Are you loyal to a color or do you find yourself bored with colors and want to change them often?<br />
<br />
<br />
The
curse of being a decorator. We always find something on our hunts for
clients that make us want to redo our whole space. Right now I am still
in love with my pink living room and coral library, and they have been
these colors for over five years. I love my bold blue dining room and it
probably receives the most compliments, but I have seen a half dozen
other wallpapers I would love to redecorate with and they are all green.
As for my clients, I pay attention to the colors they love and how
those colors will work in their spaces.<br />

This morning was chilly and
I love chilly mornings. It was just right for bringing in some Spring
cuttings. The wisteria is still looking pretty and the roses are robust
this year. I decided to Spring up the mantel in the living room. I
prefer the more is more look and especially the mantel. It is such a
natural spot for pretties and you can't overlook them up there. It's
almost as if they are on stage perfoming for us.<br />
<br />
The bees were not
up yet this morning so I was able to get a little wisteria without
getting them angry at me. The pink hydrangeas are dried.<br />

Spring is bursting out everywhere here. I brought some azaleas indoors
for a few pretty photos of them in the living room. We had a lot of
rain yesterday and there were a lot of azalea flowers on the ground and
falling off the branches. I decided to play with them and think it
upped the pretty look!<br />
<br />
I threw a white blanket on the sofa to catch the loose azalea flowers.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2799.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2799.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21367" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2799.jpg" height="1200" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2799.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I
had shot the photos with one set of pillows and decided to try another
set. These two pillows are actually more of a burgundy. I think the
last time I used them was in the Fall. Do you have a favorite?<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2921.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2921.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21374" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2921.jpg" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2921.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
It's
funny because I thought I didn't like these pillows in here and they
were banished to upstairs but now they work. Maybe it's the light this
time of year affecting how the pillows appear.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2909.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2909.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-21376" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2909.jpg?w=768" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2909.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Early in the morning with the sun hitting the back of the flowers and the aqua pillows that live on the sofa a lot.<br />
<br />

But it's just so strange for it to be happening so early. It's been so
warm for this time of year and every day there is something new
blooming. I love seeing everything coming out of hibernation. I am
enjoying seeing and using what Mother Nature is providing right now.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2685.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2685.jpg"><img alt="img_2685" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21174" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2685.jpg" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2685.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I
don't think I shared my Christmas gift to myself this year on the
blog. Turquoise or aqua plates have been catching my eye. French
antique Sarreguemines majolica plate in a very vivid shade of blue and
featuring two birds perched in a cherry tree.<br />
<br />
Now when I say this
was a gift to myself, it was! I have never traveled outside the country
except for one short trip to Mexico in the 1980s. This plate went over
the Atlantic Ocean from France to my humble abode in the Deep South. I
was so excited when it arrived, I took a photo of the postage stamp!<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_1371.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_1371.jpg"><img alt="img_1371" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-21210" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_1371.jpg?w=768" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_1371.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/img_1377.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/img_1377.jpg"><img alt="img_1377" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-20514" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/img_1377.jpg" height="667" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/img_1377.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
My
new addition...well additions. I was fortunate to find the pretty one
to the right over seas as well. So it's a vignette of Valentine's
roses, card, azaleas and french plates along with pinecones and a small
container of tulips.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2618.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2618.jpg"><img alt="img_2618" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-21168" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2618.jpg?w=895" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2618.jpg?w=895" width="895" /></a><br />

<br />
I have been trying different looks with them.<br />
<br />

<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/img_1774.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/img_1774.jpg"><img alt="img_1774" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-20628" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/img_1774.jpg?w=768" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/img_1774.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It was late March last year when I was able to bring azaleas inside.<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/img_62311.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/img_62311.jpg"><img alt="IMG_6231" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-13352" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/img_62311.jpg" height="751" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/img_62311.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The pansies took forever to have flowers this year and I don't know why.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2643.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2643.jpg"><img alt="img_2643" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21171" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2643.jpg" height="600" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2643.jpg" width="800" /></a><br />

<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2424.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2424.jpg"><img alt="img_2424" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-20949" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2424.jpg?w=768" height="1024" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2424.jpg?w=768" width="768" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I brought in a big branch of azaleas so they would show really pretty. That's a tip, if you want your flowers to stand out then use a lot!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2705.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2705.jpg"><img alt="img_2705" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21193" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2705.jpg" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2705.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Meanwhile
the hunt for new drapes for the dining room continues........and yes it
has been challenging! I hope you have a great week!<br />

your life. It doesn't have to be a boyfriend or husband but the
special people in your life that let you know they care. Call them up
and go to lunch. Buy yourself a special treat. Or just ignore it and
enjoy your day!<br />
<br />
As some bloggers know there are times when the
endless enthusiasm for blogging dissipates. I hope to get my drive back
soon but today I have a few photos from the past that celebrate the
loveliness of roses. I love all flowers not just roses. Call me crazy
but I have always thought I would love to live in a florist's shop. Now
I don't want to be a florist but to wake up to all that beauty every
morning would be unbelievable.<br />
<br />
My mister knows how much I love
flowers. In addition to his day job, he is a musician. He is a
guitarist and singer, playing at many venues, including weddings. One
night after a wedding, the people cleaning up after the wedding were <i>throwing away all the flowers.</i>
He couldn't believe it and went right behind them and loaded up his
van. When I woke up the next morning the whole bottom floor of our
house was filled with the flowers. He does have his good side!<br />

should go get prettied up like Eva Gabor looked every day on Green
Acres. But that would take this woman a couple of years......<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/eva-gabor.jpeg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/eva-gabor.jpeg"><img alt="eva-gabor" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21138" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/eva-gabor.jpeg" height="430" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/eva-gabor.jpeg" width="580" /></a><br />
<br />
This
is one of the first photos I took for the blog. I was using my cell
phone and took it outside because the light was so much better. It was
freezing cold. The berries was still holding on from Christmas and I
had gotten these beautiful roses but they were past their prime. So I
plucked the heads off and served them on a plate for the photo.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/two-birds-table.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/two-birds-table.jpg"><img alt="two birds table" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1792" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/two-birds-table.jpg?w=1024" height="768" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/two-birds-table.jpg?w=1024" width="1024" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I
had on old mirror on the back porch and got to play with it some before
somebody broke it. Hmmm... wonder who, asks the the lady who is always
breaking things. It gave me extra roses in the reflection in this
photo.<br />

We continue to have such warm days and the biggest azalea bush in the
front is starting to really fill out with blooms. I couldn't help
myself and brought some inside. The green vase helps bring out the
magenta color and it sits on top of the winter green glass bowl that is
sitting upside down. The combination of the two help pick and a reflect
the light. Pinecones still out for the winter decor could further
confuse an onlooker. Is it winter or spring? Yes, I agree it's
confusing!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a data-mce-href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2567.jpg" href="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2567.jpg"><img alt="img_2567" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21069" data-mce-src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2567.jpg" height="675" src="https://justjanblog.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/img_2567.jpg" width="900" /></a><br />
<br />
This
big mirror was living across the dining room on top of the armoire but I
missed it here. The mister moved it and I know I need to keep it in
one place because it's so old and fragile. You can't miss the cloudy
spots on it.<br />

warm and many flowering plants and trees think it's time to bloom here.
They don't know it isn't Spring so I call it our Faux Spring.<br />
<br />
Some
Japanese Magnolias blooming closer to downtown are magical right now.
They don't know it's early February. They don't know people are
shoveling feet of snow from their yards a few hundred miles away. All
they know is the sun is shining warm on their leaves and it's time to
bloom and give us all something beautiful to look at. It's time to open
the brightly colored petals to display for our winter worn eyes.<br />
<br />
And
it is still winter...no way around it. A frost or dip in temperatures
one night will end the kaleidoscope color show of Japanese magnolias,
azaleas and camellias blooming. But the flowers don't know it February.
And right now, looking above us on the branches, we don't have to know
either.<br />
<br />
Lightness and laughter are a short distance away. My
daughter is a wordsmith and wrote the best of this post and a couple of
photos included.<br />
