Plate Of Roses

Hey Ya'll!  I hope your enjoying pretty weather today like I am.  I have my doors open and am enjoying this cool weather we never have in May.  My gardenias are blooming and they smell wonderful.  Is it early for them to be blooming?  It seems like they usually bloom later in the summer.

I had a little excitement a while ago when a bird flew in the house!  He found his way out before my dogs found him.  He left a gift for me letting me know just what he thought about my hospitality!

I put together this tablescape outside since it's so pretty today.

The plates I got at a huge discount.  The glasses were my mother's.  The rose fabric I have had for a long time and had just about forgotten about.

I like pretty tables but actually I love bringing out the pretty fabric more.  This is a perfect way to show fabrics.  Of course it's roses.  I am a nut for them.  This fabric is a little warmer than I usually go.  Notice the orange in it.

We planted the roses years ago and they are this very loud color that makes them look almost artificial.  I will throw some 'faux' flowers in the mix now and then but this time it's the real thing!

May's Mantel

Hey there!  It's kind of hard this time of year to just post about inside.  Today I am showing you how I redid my mantel but the flowers outside are just too pretty to go unnoticed.  So while there's something blooming I will probably start all my posts with a little nature.

After Christmas I redid the mantel and did it up like this.

My walls are green but for some reason look aqua blue here.  But anyhow, I used my potted roses and my greatgrandmother's painting with books stacked in the center.  Those were my husband's mother's books.

This shows the wall color as it is.  And yes those are all silk - faux - fake flowers!

This worked okay but it kept bugging me.  I knew I had to change it.

And I returned to this look.  This is how I have my mantel most of the time.  I love the romantic look and am drawn to that quite a lot. I know some consider brass old news, but I love the brass here and most everywhere, it's rich color brings out the other colors.

So what do you think?  Did you like the first version better with the books and painting better?  Or this with the barefooted mother/children and plates better?

Have a great day!

Cupcakes!

Hey there! I have some yummy cupcakes, you wanna join me in blowing my diet? There's some mixing going on here. White and cream backgrounds, a rule not to be broken. But don't they get along well here? That's my mother-in-law's teapot. Isn't it sweet? Oh goodness would you bring us some napkins when you go back in? I'll be waiting.....

Crazy over Alabama Homes

Hi everyone! Just back from a little road trip to Alabama, specifically Troy, as we had some business to tend to there. I was really surprised at all the different kinds of architecture seen in these residential homes. I took most of these photos on just a couple of streets that run parallel to each other. I wanted to show these houses to you because they are all older homes that are being brought back to their former glory. Of course some look like they maintained their glory all these years.

And the same house from a different angle;
As you can see there is great variety of home styles. I hope you enjoyed it. Jan

Yellow and Red

I hope you like the look and feel of these photos. It has a twenties vintage feeling to them. Roses from the yard, fabric remnant and second hand vase.
