May's Mantel

Hey there!  It's kind of hard this time of year to just post about inside.  Today I am showing you how I redid my mantel but the flowers outside are just too pretty to go unnoticed.  So while there's something blooming I will probably start all my posts with a little nature.

After Christmas I redid the mantel and did it up like this.

My walls are green but for some reason look aqua blue here.  But anyhow, I used my potted roses and my greatgrandmother's painting with books stacked in the center.  Those were my husband's mother's books.

This shows the wall color as it is.  And yes those are all silk - faux - fake flowers!

This worked okay but it kept bugging me.  I knew I had to change it.

And I returned to this look.  This is how I have my mantel most of the time.  I love the romantic look and am drawn to that quite a lot. I know some consider brass old news, but I love the brass here and most everywhere, it's rich color brings out the other colors.

So what do you think?  Did you like the first version better with the books and painting better?  Or this with the barefooted mother/children and plates better?

Have a great day!

  1. What beautiful things to use on your mantle and it's nice to change things up from time to time. I love books...but it looks nice either way! Love your style!

  2. Thank you so much! Books are wonderful, aren't they?! Love decorating with them and they belonged to my mother in law so that makes them very special to me.
